Cross Country 2009
Practices
There are two practices a week. Practices begin on Tuesday, September 8 for K-3rd and Wednesday, September 9 for 4th - 8th. Runners should bring running clothes, shoes, and a water bottle to practice. Bring a sweatshirt or rain jacket if appropriate. Parents are always welcome to help at practices (please!).
On Tuesdays, all runners grades K-3 go to Maple Leaf Playfield from 3:15 to 4:15. Runners change into their running clothes at school and walk with coaches to the park. Parents pick up runners at the park at 4:15.
On Mondays and Wednesdays, runners in grades 4—8 meet at Lower Woodland Park at 4:15 and run until 5:15. The meeting place is the west end of the running track/big soccer field, near the tennis courts. Parents provide transportation to and from the practices.
About the Weather... We will practice in light rain, but will cancel practice in case of heavy
rain or lightning. Because of the large number of students participating, we cannot call all parents when a practice is cancelled. Call one of the coaches to find out if practice has
been cancelled.
Meets
- All meets will be at Woodland Park, starting at 1:00 pm.
- For grades K—3 there will be three meets, two preliminary on September 27th and October 4th (Time TBD) and a championship on October 11th at 1pm.
- For grades 4—8 there will also be three meets, preliminaries on September 27 and
October 4th (Time TDB), and their championship meet will be on October 18 at 1pm. - Plan to arrive at the park 45 minutes before race time. Runners must have participated in at least one of the preliminary meets to be eligible for their grade-level championship meet.
- Distances will be ½ mile for the K-3 runners, 1 mile for the 4th and 5th graders, 1½ miles for the 6th and 7th graders, and 2 miles for the 8th graders.
- Runner must have participated in at least one of the preliminary meets to be eligible for the championship meet.

Cost is $20, regardless of grade.
Sign-ups are due on September 7, but the first practice is September 5. If you want to participate, please come to practice even if you have not turned in your registration.
